monday OCTOBER 25, 2016 - 2:00 - 4:00pm

“Welcome to the official “Launch" of Aspen City of Wellbeing (ACW) at the Inaugural “Lead with Love”  Mind, Body, Spirit Rx Retreat in Aspen, CO. In this opening ceremony you will learn more about ACW as well as hear from several amazing and inspiring teachers and social entrepreneurs as we collectively set our intention for our time together.

Jess Ewart is the Executive Director of Aspen City of Wellbeing.  In this talk,  will share the benefits of valuing individual, group, and community wellbeing as much as we currently value return on investment.  There are a myriad of reasons for families, companies, schools, hospitals, and governments to begin understanding what constitutes wellbeing, how to measure it, ways to make it a priority, and ultimately how small shifts can drastically improve wellbeing for everyone. Oftentimes, a focus on wellbeing is seen as a luxury -- an expensive endeavor reserved for the most elite classes in our society.  ACW seeks to make wellbeing a priority across all socio-economic boundaries by strategically creating a tipping point in our valley that is scaleable and replicable in other regions.

radical healing

Healing happens when we begin to mend the separation in our consciousness between the mind, body and spirit. Understanding this interdependency can radically shift the way we “see” the body, empowering us to support our own health and wellness in a more integrated- and therefore holistic-way, opening us to the love within and beyond. Through yoga, we can explore the mind/body connection, the impact our emotional life has on our health, how to “read” or map the body symbolically, and how to interpret these physiological/emotional messages as spiritual guidance meant to open us to love, acceptance and to appreciate the interconnection that binds us all as one. Join Seane for this unique vinyasa flow master class for all levels to invite radical healing into whatever area of your mind/body needs it most. Some discussion, mostly asana.

wednesdaY OCTOBER 26, 2016 - 9:00 - 11:30aM

Yoga teaches us that we are all one.  During this class we will explore what it means to truly embody a sense of deep connection to all things.  In order to do that we must first confront the ways that we create separation both within ourselves and in our community and world.  As we move through our limited beliefs and fears, we open up to the vast possibilities that living and leading from a place of love and connection offers.

Gretchen Bleiler

wednesday OCTOBER 26, 2016 - 1:00 - 1:25pm

redefining extraordinary

redefining extraordinary

Gretchen believes that her most extraordinary accomplishment in life is not any of her titles, gold medals or awards. But what she's most proud of is having the courage to follow her heart. But that path is, quite literally, not for the faint of heart!

Early on in her life and career she learned about the courage it takes to step outside of society's norms for a dream no one else could understand and become the architect of her destiny. She now calls this "the art of living extraordinarily" and has created a company called ALEX that represents this way of life.

But our highest potential is always evolving based on our willingness to explore it. And what Gretchen never saw coming was that the dream life she had created was just a stepping stone, an evolution, preparing her for something more. And so she had to once again summon the courage to leave the comforts of that life behind and again step outside of societies norms in order to make room for her new potential.

In her talk Gretchen will address following your heart in terms of turning points, knowing when it's time to move on and the necessary mind set to do so patiently and gracefully. Because the foundation to accessing your heart is being still, she will end her talk with a meditation to help you on your way to living extraordinarily!

the power of play

The Science of Openness: Seeing & playing freely for life

Isabel Behncke, MSc, MPhil, PhD and Beau Lotto, Neuroscientist & Artist

Life is hard! Throughout our evolutionary history there were more ways to die in the world than there were to stay alive (and this hasn’t changed). Which is why our behaviors are often biased towards the negative rather than the positive. Why then, when it would seem the most rational response to darkness is to do nothing do we not just stand still? We instead move forward. We find … and even create light. But how is moving forward possible in the Heart of Darkness?
A key answer is Play! Since play entails costs in energy and time (…even serious injury and death), it must have evolved for good reason. And indeed, play is evolution’s solution to one of the biggest challenges facing life, namely, uncertainty. This is essential, as without stepping into uncertainty, no system (including humans) would be able to create, much less maintain life-long adaptation in the face of a changing world. Play not only helps us tolerate uncertainty, but when playing, we love uncertainty – we find it fun and we can thrive in it. Play not only motivates us to go towards and engage with the world, but its joie de vivre is the core linker between complex sociality, consciousness and creativity.
Based on Isabel Behncke’s behavioral research on wild bonobos in the Congo jungle and Beau Lotto’s on the neuroscience of seeing differently, we will learn that play enables a less egocentric, and more open, complex and adaptive way of perceiving one’s self and one’s world. Check the previous work of these scientists at – and come to experience the power of play

Kerri Kelly + Skippy Mesirow

wednesday OCTOBER 26, 2016 - 3:00 - 3:30pm

Modern democracy & civic engagement

Where we intersect: Civic engagement is how we take care of each other. How we tend to the wellbeing of all.

Possible Panel Questions:

What is the symbolism of this election?
How do we navigate this mess? How do we show up?
There is so much attention on the Presidential “drama”, but what about local, why don’t we focus on local?
What does our practice have to do with voting?
What is the opportunity for us "here"?

Talk points:

Kerri Kelly:
1. Voting as collective care. Voting is a representation of our relationship to self, other and the whole.
2. Citizenship as practice. How we translate our practice into our responsibility as citizens and civic duty.

Skippy Mesirow:
1. The culture of civic engagement (opting out vs opting in)
 - Pulling back Vs. leaning in... How reflectivity works and how we manifest our best us.
 - A social practice...This is contagious!
2. The personal is political. How local engagement is transforming our relationship to politics as personal.
  - Why we start small and replicate.
  - Local examples that are transferable

Voice Of Change Workshop + Kirtan

Do you yearn to stand in your own power and speak your truth? Is it time to listen to the poetry of your own soul and to give voice to the innate wisdom that you carry?
Voice of Change with Suzanne Sterling is designed to develop and strengthen your ability to live, express, and embody your truth. Through the practices of vinyasa flow yoga, conscious movement, self inquiry and singing, you will develop ways to heal deep seated patterns of silence and uncover the soul of expression that lives inside you. The practice will focus on specific sequences designed to release long held traumas in the 5th chakra.  We will learn the ancient art of bridging sound and asana as we move through powerful standing postures, liberating balance postures and voice activating backbends.   As you release, listen and find your voice, you will then be supported in taking steps to become an effective agent of change - using self expression to support social justice and creative evolution.  Learn to uncover the soul of expression that lives inside you and to celebrate your creativity & artistry in powerful ways as your message becomes your medicine.

You will learn:

  • to understand and heal the core traumas that keep you protected but shut down
  • to understand the science of sound healing as well as how to use your own voice as a tool for empowerment

the evolution of soul-centered leadership

A Soul Centered Leader is a balance of power and vulnerability.  They are open hearted, honest, transparent and real. There is no time for games, to hide in shame or withhold truth. Their actions and words are in alignment. They embrace fear and pressure and courageously lean into resistance and the transformation of the moment. They realize that adaptive Leadership is necessary in the midst of global challenges.  A Soul Centered Leader will not partake in objectifying others and focuses on bringing out the best in all those around them.  They bring out the best in situations and empower others to be brilliant and inspired. They believe in some form of Spiritual Practice, because they realize that solutions are sourced from a place in addition to the intellect. And they take massive action. They are a beacon of Love and yet grounded in the business of the day. This is the future of our world, in the realm of leadership.

  • Offering an entirely new perspective on the future of Leadership and a clear definition of what it means to each of us.
  • Explain the difference between the old bankrupt model of Leadership and evolutionary leadership.
  • Shift the belief (mental, emotional, spiritual) that Leaders are born not made.
  • Demonstrate how to BE a Soul Centered Leader Now, as opposed to a progression of credibility.
  • Create an opportunity for each person to commit to an action to engage the tools from the talk.

bhakti flow yoga in the fitness center

bhakti flow yoga

Bhakti yoga is the path of devotion, the method of attaining God through love and the loving recollection of God. Most religions emphasize this spiritual path because it is the most natural. As with other yogas, the goal of the bhakta, the devotee of God, is to attain God-realization—oneness with the Divine.
