A Transformative Community Experience by Lead With Love + The Wheeler Opera House
Join us for three exciting evenings of entertainment and inspiration at our “Be The Change” Summit at the historic Wheeler Opera House Sept 17-19, 2020.
Our favorite thing about our Lead with Love Summit in late October of 2016, 2017 and 2018 was meeting inspiring changemakers, many of whom we had never heard of before, who were changing the world for good.
This new event will highlight some of these changemakers and inspire you to “be the change” in your own life taking the things that break your heart, fill you with joy, or even illicit rage or anger, and DO SOMETHING about it!
The world needs all of us to stand up as heart-centered leaders - not just talking about change - but actually being the change.
Learn practical skills and hear heroic, heart-warming stories from those on the front lines doing extraordinary things.
Presenters
Ricard Joyner
CNN Hero
The son of a sharecropper, Reverend Richard Joyner was born in Bethel. Determined not to be a farmer, Richard joined the US Army , then served in the National Guard. He attended Shaw University in Raleigh where he earned his divinity degree, accepting a higher calling.
Over twenty years ago he returned to eastern North Carolina to work at Nash General as the community chaplain. In 2001, just fifteen years ago, he became the pastor at Conetoe Missionary Baptist church, just a few miles north of his home town of Bethel. He knew that environment of farmers, many in poor health so he began serving their spiritual needs as pastor but also began to look at improving the community and lifestyles of his parishioners.
In 2005, after presiding over too many funerals in his congregation, Rev. Joyner established the Family Life Center and taught young people to plant and harvest vegetables. Today they operate 15 plots covering several acres along with greenhouses and beehives. They sell the produce to area grocery stores, at farmer’s markets and other venues including Ace Hardware and Piggly Wiggly. The proceeds from these community gardens go into scholarships for the students.
Reverend Richard Joyner was recognized for his dedication to his community in 2014 with the Encore Purpose Prize. In 2015, CNN recognized him as a national hero for his leadership in promoting healthy living.

Bob Chapman
CHAIRMAN AND CEO Of BARRY-WEHMILLER
Recently named the #3 CEO in the world by inc., Bob Chapman is very intentional about using his platform as a business leader to build a better world.
Chapman is chairman and CEO of St. Louis, MO-based Barry-Wehmiller, a $2.8b global manufacturing business with almost 12,000 team members. The company began as a small pasteurizing and bottle washer business in 1885 and, through acquisition and organic growth, has grown into 12 business units serving primarily the packaging, paper converting, sheeting and corrugating industries. Chapman became the senior executive of this private company in 1975 at age 30 when the 80-year-old business had $20 million in revenue, outdated technology and a very weak financial position. Despite the obstacles, Chapman applied a unique blend of strategy and culture over the next 40 years in leading Barry-Wehmiller through more than 90 successful acquisitions.
Over the past two decades, a series of realizations led him away from traditional management practices to what he now calls Truly Human Leadership--a people-centric approach where his employees feel valued, cared for, and an integral part of the company’s purpose. At Barry-Wehmiller, they have a unique measure of success: by the way they touch the lives of people.
Chapman’s experiences and the transformation he championed were the inspiration behind his WSJ bestseller everybody matters: the extraordinary power of caring for your people like family, released by Random House/portfolio in October 2015. The book is co-authored by Raj Sisodia, founder and co-author of Conscious Capitalism.
